All-New SUVs and Crossovers Coming to the US Market

2017 is shaping up to be an exciting year in the auto industry. We have a lot to look forward to. Among the announcements we've heard lately are a number of SUVs and crossovers that have never sold in the US, and some that have never been sold anywhere.

Toyota C-HR

The C-HR is another attempt by Toyota to appeal to a younger crowd and compete with sporty, quirky vehicles like the Nissan Juke and the Hyundai Veloster. It's a subcompact crossover that's probably right between the Juke and the CR-V, in terms of size.

The C-HR will probably be available with a 1.2L turbo engine and with a hybrid drive train. according to Car and Driver. Nobody's sure but we can expect it to compete head on with the Juke. If that's the case, it will be quick but also efficient. The Juke has around 200 horsepower and gets up to 34 miles to the gallon. If the Toyota prices comparably to the Juke, it will have an MSRP of about $20,000 to $25,000.

Kia Niro

Kia's website states that the Niro will be available in early 2017. It's a hybrid vehicle that will later be available as a plug-in hybrid, according to rumors. Kia says the Niro will achieve close to 50 miles per gallon. It has a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which in easily one of the most intriguing features of any upcoming vehicle, if you know how unique that makes this hybrid car. This could be a bigtime seller.

Kia Telluride

A top Hyundai/Kia executive recently told Automotive News that the Kia Telluride concept has a good chance of making it to mass production. It's a three-row crossover that will probably be powered by an engine that has more than 300 horsepower. With which SUVs the Telluride will compete directly is now the question. It could be a strong, affordable alternative to vehicles like the Toyota Highlander and the Nissan Armada.

Brabus 850 XL

Brabus is an aftermarket tuning company that buys autos from manufacturers and then tweaks them until they are barely within the limits of physics. The 850 XL limits itself to 186 miles per hour only because going faster would cause the tires to fail under this behemoth's weight.

850 indicates an astonishing 850 horsepower, which takes this highly modified Mercedes-Benz GLS 63 from 0 to 60 in just over 4 seconds. Adding to its road-ripping potential is Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system. It's slightly more aerodynamic than the GLS, says Brabus, and it comes with their Monoblock 23" forged wheels.

Lots of Fords

UPDATE: The Return of the Bronco and the Ranger is Confirmed!

Ford VP of Sales and marketing, Mark LaNeve, recently told the media that his company would be adding four SUVs to the Ford line over the next four years. That's right; one new model per year over the next four years, on average.

We don't know what these vehicles will look like but LaNeve did say they will compete in market segments where Ford is absent. That means we're likely to see a new subcompact vehicle, a compact 4x4 and maybe a hybrid or electric vehicle. Ford sells a subcompact crossover in other parts of the world; it's called the EcoSport. Maybe it's on the way to the States.

Jeep Wrangler Pickup

Jeep won't let Ford take over the SUV market by simply giving us more options. The brand is planning to expand its line by building an all-new, pickup version of its popular Wrangler model, and it is planned for availability by late 2017!
